STRUCTURED STOREY SOILED AT SILICON CITY:

IT WAS MONDAY MORNING 9 O CLOCK. The IT capital Bangalore was just uncovering its mask of weekend enjoyment and the people were starting to begin their work. If all was well, the labours at Someshwar Nagar would have begun their routine construction work. But the happened event was heartrending. Yes, three labourers sacrificed their innocent lives for their owner's mistake and seven were injured. It was 9.15 am, a 6-storeyed building, which took its shape in just 6 months met its disaster by complete uprootment by taking 3 people inside its deadly womb. The actual happening was that a builder named Mohmed Saleem, a resident of Miko layout was constructing an apartment of 6 Flores at a very cheap rate in the 9th cross of Someshwar Magar behind Nimhans hospital. The building was being constructed only since 6 months but developed rapidly in a very faster manner. The police force and fire brigade worked at the spot for 2 days for almost 35 hours consistently by challenging their own lives. The fire IGP K. L. Sudheer and DIG Chandrashekar led the entire forces and worked for the entire operation, but could bring back only the dead bodies, as there was no way to enter the building. Moreover, the building was further collapsing inside its foundation, as there was no strength in construction at least to hold the building's weight. The buldozers and cranes were used for clearing the spot, which is still not to be undertaken. The joint commissioner of police Mr. Kamal Panth visited the spot on the day of collapse itself and supervised the work done by the fire brigade and the police force. The Bangalore care taking minister Mr. Ramalinga Reddy also inspected the horrifying location and also promissed of the sanction of compensations to the injured and the families of dead labourers. The BBMP commissioner Lakshmi Narayan completely led the activities done by BBMP in demolition and also assured for the protesters. The deputy commissioner of police South Mr. H. R. Revanna said that, the remaining labourers are saved only as they were at breakfast at the time and he not the building would have taken more lives. The Karnataka home minister K. J. George visitted the site and went through with a complete supervission of the work done by the police force. in the tragedy has risen to three. The 1st victim has been identified as Paswan. The authorities had found two bodies in the rubble on Monday evening – that of Niranjan and Nagamma. The body of Nagamma, a native of Manvi in Raichur district, however, could not be retrieved till Tuesday evening as it was stuck between concrete slabs, authorities said. The children of Nagamma, meanwhile, have filed a complaint with the Siddapura police against the builder and contractor responsible for the death of their mother. The event proving the top of negligency! Greedy man's money making ended in grievance! Yes, the whole event has proved the height of ignorance among the owners and the carelessness of the supervises the building has been proved with complete low quality and the officers were showing the notice, which has been already brought to the attention of Mr. Saleem. The builder had also did not give much importance, which has now brought threat to hundreds of human beings. The neighbours of the building are also protesting simultaneously, as they are in the threat of missing their houses and buildings as to become victim for the deadly buildixh. The builder is now absconding and the Siddeshwar Magar police are in investigating the case after registering the case at their limits. The Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who are engaged in carrying out rescue operations at the multi-storeyed building in Someshwara Nagar, whose ground floor had collapsed on Monday, found the third body on Tuesday. With this, the toll But the builder in a hurry of speedy construction neglected everything that has ended up with a big blunder! Yes, Mr. saleem used very cheap strategy of construction and took permission for building only ground flore plus two flores from BBMP but was constructing 6 storeys building. The building which was built with low quality of materials and poor strategy collapsed at its foundation itself for almost ten feet and 3 labourers including a woman, who was working inside strucked under the ruined building, who finally inevitably gave up their lives. Residents of Someshwara Nagar 9th Cross, where an under-construction building stands precariously tilted over adjoining buildings, staged a protest against the proposed demolition work by the civic agencies after one person was injured when a portion of the wall of the building collapsed on him on Tuesday. Though Krishnappa, a neighbour, escaped with minor injuries, residents protested against the demolition alleging that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is not taking precautionary measures. Senior BBMP officials along with the officials of the Revenue Department rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors, promising compensation to the owner of the damaged house. Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency Services officials continue the operations o retrieve the body of Nagamma (45), which was stuck under a pillar of the building, whose ground floor caved in on Monday, killing two labourers. Nagamma, a native of Manvi in Raichur, had come to the city with her three children in search of a job. While her three ce children, who are staying with her, managed to escape, she was buried under the debris. Soon after the body of Nagamma was handed over to the police for post-mortem, the protesters blocked the police vehicle and started shouting slogans. Officials of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) along with the senior police officials swung into action and pacified the crowd by offering a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to the family of the victim and assured a job to the eldest son of Nagamma on compassionate grounds. Recalling the horrific incident, Sannappa, the eldest son of the victim said he was on the second floor of the building while his mother was on the ground floor, which caved in after the basement sunk by about 10 feet. “When the building began shaking and debris began falling, I rushed down from the second floor along with the other co-workers and saw my bleeding mother, caught between a concrete slab and a pillar, struggling to break free. I called her out and held her outstretched hand to save her, but in vain. But, others dragged me out of the building forcefully,” a weeping Sannappa recalled while explaining the turn of events to the police in the presence of this reporter. Within seconds, the ground floor collapsed amid a cloud of dust engulfing the area. Commotion prevailed with workers running helter-skelter. Soon, the building was cordoned off. Minutes before the tragedy, about 70 workers were having their breakfast on the ground floor. Most of them moved up to the second floor, where they had been deputed to work after mason Hanumesh asked them to start their work. However, Nagamma along with the two others, Niranjan and Paswan, stayed back on the ground floor, where they had been deputed for work. All three lost their lives. Sannappa shuddered to imagine his brothers’ and other co-workers’ fate had the tragedy occurred at night. For, all of them sleep in the building. Earlier in the day, the BBMP officials issued a written assurance to the residents in and around the building promising them to repair their houses in case of any damage during the demolition of the building. The BBMP has entrusted the work to private agency to demolish the building, which had developed huge cracks and tilted onto the adjacent residential apartment buildings. Barely, had the BBMP personnel begun the demolition work, the residents protested stating that their houses would be damaged. They blamed the BBMP officials for the mess. Venkata Chalapathy, one of the resident told that they had filed several petitions and even complained to the BBMP engineers and the councillor, but the owner continued to build a multi-storeyed apartment in violation of the rules. The entire building has come up in 10 months,” Most of the neighbours have now vacated their houses to facilitate the demolition. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.S. Revanna said that the jurisdictional Siddapura police had taken up a suo motu case against Mohamed Saleem and others under (304(a)) death due to negligence. The Siddapura police continue to track down Mohammed Saleem, the building owner, who is missing with his family members. Shocked residents say they trusted the builder. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike on Thursday issued notices to the developer of two buildings, adjacent to the one that collapsed in Someshwara Nagar, asking for details of construction. Incidentally, the two adjacent structures have been developed by Mohammed Salim, the same builder who constructed the building that collapsed on Monday killing three workers. Salim has been absconding since then. Each of the two multi-storeyed structures adjacent to the collapsed building houses around 50 flats. Even three days 23 families are still on the roads. And they're likely to remain homeless for another week. These families were evacuated from houses surrounding the structure, and... The BBMP move to issue notices was prompted by Upa Lokayukta S.B. Majage’s visit on Wednesday. Mr. Majage pulled up BBMP officials for their negligence. The Upa Lokayukta had also issued a show-cause notice to the BBMP engineer responsible for clearing construction of the building. He had asked why no action had been taken against the builders who had violated several building bylaws. Reacting to this, the BBMP officials, in turn, slapped notices on the developer of the two adjacent buildings, occupied by some 50 families. One of them is the RK Gold Palace complex and the other one is as yet unnamed. The notices, addressed to Mohammed Salim and his partner Mudassir Pasha, directed them to produce the land documents and building plans within three days. The notice also warned that strict action would be taken against them under the appropriate sections of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act of 1976 if they failed to produce the documents within the stipulated time. Hundreds of residents in the neighbourhood, most of them from the middle class, are shell- shocked. “We trusted Salim and invested all our hard earned money. Some of us have also taken loans from private financiers since we could not afford a bank loan,” said the owner of a flat in the adjacent RK Gold Palace complex. They opined with the pain of loss of money that, they had high regard for Salim who had sold us flats of 500 sft (square feet) for Rs. 10 lakh in this area. We did not know he had violated all norms. God knows what material he used to construct these flats", said another resident, adding that the occupants of the adjacent apartments had hardly slept since Monday. But, some flat owners continue to empathise with Salim by telling, He is a genuine builder with real concern for the middle class. He had several projects in the area and sold flats for nominal rates to middle class people. Since he had too many projects in hand, he delegated the work to his associates leading to this disaster,” said Abdul Rasheed Khan, a mechanical engineer in a private firm who lives in RK Gold Palace. One of the resident still speaks with a possitive hope by opining as I am sure he will not only return all the money we have invested in the project but also do something to instil confidence among his customers when he returns,” he said. Meanwhile, demolition work is yet to start on the building as BBMP officials and a private civil engineering company, entrusted with the work, are awaiting specialised equipment from Hyderabad. However. This is not the first time that the garden city is witnessing such critical situation. But at least now both the government and the builders ours open thei eyes to prevent further disasters by taking required steps as such of tight legal actions against the illegal builders, demolishing the illegal buildings and taking self safety measures. He not, the builders will be the basis for the brutal disaster life catchers in future as a consequence of their unlimited money making vanity.
