DELUGE DESTRUCTING DAILY LIVELIHOOD:
City converted into sea! Vehicles being static on the crowded main roads! Houses changed as pools! Yes, this is the unimaginable scene witnessed at garden city Bangalore as an impact of spontaneous and simultaneous rainfall that was pouring down cats and dogs for 2 days. It is the historical rainfall that could not be resisted by the Bangalorians. All of a sudden the unexpected rainfall took away the mobility, mass and sleep of the mass.
Traffic jam was predominant in most of the in most of the crowded vehicle areas. The commuters stucked for hours together in the evening at Shivananda circle, as the people were in hurry to reach their destinations after finishing their works. This hurry even did the situation critical at Richmund road and the police struggled hard to regulate the vehicles against the floody rainfall.
The angry of nature against the man made artificial town planning resulted with the loss of an innocent labour. Mallesh, who was working at Raj Enterprises returned all the way to his home to save his household commodities from rain. But the man who went to the spot did not return, but found dead carried away by the brutal water. Similar tragedy which was about to happen at K.s garden in Sudhamanagar locality, as an electric pole fell down on a house due to heavy rainfall and wind. A mother and a small 2 year old child who was inside the house were rescued in the tip from the shackles of death, who are now admitted to the hospital as suffering from severe injuries. A number of electric poles reached the ground, but thankfully have not taken any further lives. Big trees have uprooted at Kumara Krupa road and Kormangla, which were cleared with tremendous efforts but caused disruption for power supply throughout the city by stucking the vehicles too. Four vehicles including a BMTC bus stucked under repair at Binny Mill road accomplished by a number of other vehicles.
The center crowded area of the city Majestic bus stand was converted into ocean and the people who were in the urge of travelling in their weekend found with despair. The residents of Malleshwaram, Prakash Nagar and the residers near Sujatha theater spent their whole night in driving out the over flown drainage water from their houses. More than 150 houses are completely swallowed by the overflowing of drainage cannals. A manhole that was being open in front of Garuda mall was depicting the conditions of the drain system in the city which completely stucked the activities of M.g road, brigade road and residenshal road. The case of undergoing repairs and works were also of no exception. A drainage cannal work that was going on near DTML at Pinya was completely destroyed by the Rain. The situation at K.r market was even miserable. The entire market was filled with mud and husk and the buyers were hesitating to purchase vegetables. The condition of E.g Pura market was also similar. it is estimated that the city has recieved 100 mm of rainfall, which has occured after 145 years as happened in 1891 and the most shocking truth is that it is still a pre-monsoon rain. The weather forecasters have still predicted a continuity of thunder and storms with rainfall in the city. But do all issues happened with the brutality of nature?
Certainly not, it is the real gift of the so called civilized society by which the entire ground is concretised and no sight of mud can be found that can suck the fallen water, which is creating pools everywhere. Moreover, the houses are being built on the drain cannals which are not allowing the water to flow and that over flown water is getting into the houses. However. The government as usually opened up its eyes after all destructions and the new BBMP commissioner Mr. Lakshmi narayan and the Bangalore care taking minister Mr. Ramalinga Reddy undertook survey in their city rounds and an emergency meeting was held in their presence with CM Siddaramaiah and home minister K.J George, who announced 2 lakh rupees for the families of the dead ones. The steps are also thought to be taken to construct drain canal for the betterment of the water mobility and the assurence was given about the speedy completion of the undertaken repair works. But the most miserable thing is that the city faces such problems every year which are revealed and attended by the authorities only during the time of rainy season but are not corrected in the rest of the year. But the people are already worried because if the pre-monsoon situation itself is this much undigestable, then how to resist the monsoon? The new government has to first find solution to this question. If not a day soon comes when the entire city will become an ocean not because of only rain but because of unhealthy and unplanned system.
